One of the rarest UK 45s ever, it was pulled from release after Marc Bolan left the band, with only about 50 copies believed to still exist.

BACKGROUND 

John's Children performed at The 14 Hour Technicolor Dream concert at Alexandra Palace in London on 29 April 1967. Bolan left the band that June, just four months after joining, due to disagreements over how Napier-Bell was producing their upcoming single, "A Midsummer Night's Scene." The track was pulled and never officially released.

Despite their short run, the band’s few singles have become some of the most sought-after British rock collectibles from the 1960s. In fact, a copy of the unreleased "A Midsummer Night's Scene" sold at auction in 2002 for £3,700. Simon Reynolds, in his history of glam rock, described the group’s distinctive sound—particularly on “A Midsummer Night’s Scene”—as “astoundingly deranged.”
