Released on October 6, 1967 by Track Record, "Go Go Girl" was the final single issued by John's Children and is notable for featuring an A-side written by Marc Bolan after his departure from the group.Although Bolan had already left John's Children by the time of release, his influence remained significant. "Go Go Girl" was adapted from a Bolan composition that he would later revisit under the title "Mustang Ford" on Tyrannosaurus Rex's debut album My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair... But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows.

The single represents an important transitional moment between Bolan's brief period with John's Children and the beginning of his Tyrannosaurus Rex career.

Both tracks were recorded at Spot Studios, South Molton Street, London.

Production was handled by Simon Napier-Bell.

While Marc Bolan wrote the A-side, it remains unconfirmed whether he actually performed on the released recording, although it is generally considered highly likely by collectors and researchers.

No evidence has emerged to indicate Bolan's involvement in the recording of the B-side, "Jagged Time Lapse".

STYLE & THEMES

"Go Go Girl" combines psychedelic pop and mod-era rock influences that characterised much of John's Children's output during 1967.

"Jagged Time Lapse" reflects the band's heavier late-period sound and provides a contrast to Bolan's more melodic songwriting style on the A-side.

TRACK-BY-TRACK NOTES

• Go Go Girl — Marc Bolan composition later reworked as "Mustang Ford" for Tyrannosaurus Rex.

• Jagged Time Lapse — Original composition credited to John Hewlett and Geoff McClelland.
