"The Groover" is a high-energy glam rock single that marked the end of T. Rex’s unbroken run of UK Top 10 hits. Released as a standalone non-album single on the band’s own T. THE STORY 

“The Groover” and its B-side “Midnight” were first recorded on March 20, 1973 at Rosenberg Studios in Copenhagen, with later overdubs in London. The original master tape (later released on archival compilations) features several extra minutes of Bolan’s closing guitar solo as the song evolves into a jam. A promotional video was shot on May 3, 1973 featuring Bolan prancing in a film studio intercut with live clips.

The track delivers a heavy, chugging guitar-driven sound with a powerful Bolan vocal performance and a memorable extended guitar solo in the original master (later trimmed for the single). It has a raw, danceable energy typical of peak-era T. Rex but with a slightly heavier edge.

B-Sides The UK 7" carried one non-album B-side, often regarded as strong enough to have been an A-side itself.
