The Platinum Collection Of T. Rex was released by Cube Records in October 1981 as part of The Platinum Collection series. Issued as a double-LP compilation, the release gathered recordings from both the Tyrannosaurus Rex and T. Rex periods, presenting material from across Marc Bolan's career in a single anthology.

The collection combines major hit recordings with earlier Tyrannosaurus Rex material, reflecting the breadth of Bolan's recording output from the late 1960s through the classic T. Rex era.

The album is a compilation of previously released recordings originally issued between the Tyrannosaurus Rex and T. Rex years. The tracks were produced for Straight Ahead Productions and compiled by Cube Records for release as a retrospective collection.

STYLE & THEMES

The compilation combines glam rock, pop and psychedelic folk-influenced recordings. The track selection moves between early acoustic and psychedelic material such as "Deborah", "Mustang Ford" and "King Of The Rumbling Spires" and later electric recordings including "Get It On", "Hot Love", "Jeepster" and "Mambo Sun".
