This rare 1968 UK promotional poster for Tyrannosaurus Rex’s debut album My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair... But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows features a striking psychedelic design with a Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur.

Publication: Original Promotional Poster Date: July 5, 1968

Country: United Kingdom Location: London

Section: Album Promotion (Psychedelic Poster)

THE STORY

The vibrant pink and green poster depicts a stylized Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur with poetic lyrics from the album title running along its body. It promotes Marc Bolan’s early acoustic folk-rock duo era (with Steve Peregrin Took), long before the electric glam transformation into T. Rex.

CONTEXT AND NOTES

Released in 1968, this debut album captured the height of the British underground psychedelic folk scene. Marc Bolan’s whimsical, poetic style and the band’s raw sound (just guitar, vocals, and percussion) made them darlings of the UK counterculture. Original promo posters from this era are extremely scarce today.
