Bump 'n' Grind is a compilation that brings together master recordings, working versions, rough mixes and alternate recordings spanning a significant period of Marc Bolan and T. Rex's recording career.

The collection offers an insight into the development of many well-known recordings by presenting songs in various stages of completion. Rather than focusing solely on released masters, the album documents Bolan's creative process through working recordings, alternative mixes and studio experiments.

The material originates from sessions recorded across multiple studios and countries, illustrating the breadth of Marc Bolan's recording activities during

the 1970s.

RECORDING

The recordings featured on Bump 'n' Grind were drawn from sessions held at Rosenberg Studio, Le Château D'Hérouville, MRI Recording Studio, Air Studios, Toshiba EMI Studio, Scorpio Sound and Musicland Studios.

The material includes master recordings, rough mixes, working versions and alternate mixes, revealing how songs developed from initial ideas into finished releases.

The collection was mastered at Ideal Mastering Ltd. and engineered through Fortress Studios for this 2019 compilation release.

STYLE & THEMES

The album combines glam rock, pop rock and elements of Bolan's later soul-influenced work.

By assembling master takes beside working versions and rough mixes, the collection highlights the evolution of arrangements, production choices and songwriting techniques. The recordings demonstrate both the direct glam-rock sound associated with classic T. Rex and the broader musical directions Bolan explored during the mid-1970s.
