Tanx was reissued in the United States during 2019 by Spirit Records and Universal Music Enterprises. Originally released in 1973, the album documented a transitional period in T. Rex's career, arriving after the commercial peak of The Slider and showcasing Marc Bolan's increasingly diverse songwriting.

The album reflected Bolan's desire to expand beyond the established glam rock formula while retaining the melodic strengths that had made T. Rex one of the defining acts of the era..

RECORDING

Originally produced by Tony Visconti, Tanx was recorded during 1973 and featured material written entirely by Marc Bolan.

The recordings combined rock, glam and emerging soul influences, illustrating the increasingly varied musical direction that would continue throughout Bolan's mid-1970s work.

STYLE & THEMES

While retaining the familiar T. Rex sound, Tanx introduced a broader range of arrangements and moods.

The album balances concise rock songs with reflective ballads and experimental compositions, creating one of the most varied records in the T. Rex catalogue.
